Garry oak with other trees

A mature Garry oak shares the west-facing slope with Douglas fir and arbutus trees. Over time, Douglas fir tends to overtake the oak trees, crowding them out and turning the meadow into a forest. For now, they’re co-existing here at Drumbeg Park on Gabriola Island.
