They’re Surf scoters, Latin name “Melanitta perspicicillata”. If we’d spent a longer time among them, we might have given them names like we do for some of the other animals I write about (our resident deer family for example) – but there were way too many birds, moving around way too quickly, for us to differentiate among them as individuals!
